Ensuring you are ready to start offering boxing classes
ARE you ready to start offering boxing classes as part of your gym or studio services? There are a few things that you will need to ensure you have completed before doing so.
CERTIFICATION
As of 2012 Fitness Australia*require all fitness professionals who would like to offer boxing classes to hold a minimum of Certificate III and/or IV in Fitness and an approved CEC certification. Fitness professionals who do not hold these minimum requirements will be working outside of their scope of practice and leaving themselves at risk of legal and financial consequences if a client should get injured during class.
Most importantly, we want to ensure our clients learn the best technique and skill. Undertaking a certified training course within your chosen expertise will assist you in improving your skills, learning new skills and delivering a high quality class.
INSURANCE
Ensuring boxing is covered under your insurance as well as the insurance of the studio / gym / facility you are working from is paramount. A quick phone call to your insurer will be able to confirm if you are covered or if you will be required to upgrade insurance. We are in the business of promoting health and safety and in some cases accidents do occur, ensuring you are properly covered in these instances will assist in making sure your clients are able to receive the medical care they need and take the financial stress of yourself.
FIRST AID
As a Fitness Professional you are required to hold a current first aid and CPR certificate at all times. Allowing this to lapse, not only puts your clients at risk if an accident were to occur, but your insurance as well as compliance with your governing body (i.e. Fitness Australia) may be void.
TRAINING OUTSIDE
Boxing for fitness is a versatile class that can be performed both inside and outside and we all know that getting outdoors is popular with many clients. If you are planning to take your boxing class outdoors to a nearby park, ensure that you contact your local council before hand to identify the need for any permits or licences. Many councils have now introduced licencing to deliver outdoor training for a small cost, failure to do this may mean your class may be asked to leave and you may be liable to pay a fine for failure to comply.
